The Mad Doctors | Snake Oil Superscience
Aside from being what I wish I had majored in at college ‘Snake Oil Superscience‘ is an awesome album. It’s heavy, spooky, fuzzed out and it makes me feel like I’m surfing with the devil (see fig. 1). The Mad Doctors are from Brooklyn and they sound kind of like I imagine Sabbath would have sounded if they had done an album with Dick Dale in the 70’s…. that is to say they sound fucking awesome. They’ve got this surf / garage / psychedelic thing going on that I dig. I don’t know what they’ve been putting in the water over in Brooklyn but it seems like there’s been a lot of good shit coming out of there lately. So do yourself a favor and pick up Snake Oil Superscience, better yet go out and see them play.
If you’re not to busy butt chugging Four Loco and smashing pumpkins (or whatever the fuck it is the kids are doing for Halloween these days), you should get your ass to Kung Fu Necktie in Philly this Saturday. These guys are playing with their King Pizza label mates St. James & The Apostles and local Philly rippers Brood of Vipers.
