Google Chromecast

Google Chromecast SDK finally released, Let the apps pour in.

For $35 you would have a hard time finding a better media streaming device than the Chromecast. Today it just got even better because Google released the SDK (software development kit) to developers so they can add a cast button into their apps. Up until now only select companies have had access to building apps for the device, and even though they were mostly the bigger ones like Netflix and Hulu, giving every developer the ability to incorporate the functionality to their apps is going to make the device that much more flexible. Imagine being able to mirror you phone/tablet/computer screen over to your TV from within any app on the device. Not only every device but multiple platforms also. Whether you use an Android phone, PC, iPhone, iPad, or Mac, they all work the same.

The last update we saw to the device back this past holiday season added 10 new apps that supported it, I am guessing we will see a flood of hundreds if not thousands of them over the next few days alone in comparison to then with the SDK now available for all. One of my personal favorite developers, Koush, said he would be updating his app Allcast to support the device as quick as possible. With that you will be able to send all the media you have saved on you phone straight over to the big screen. I am sure it will only get better with time too, so keep an eye on that.

If any really spectacular new apps come out that take advantage of the device we will be sure to keep you updated. If you were on the fence about buying one of these up until now, this should be all the motivation you need to go get one today.
