Megafaun | Megafaun

Great band, Great Sound, Great Album… I could pretty much wrap it up right there but as usual I’m probably going to carry on for a bit about shit that’s at best loosely related to the topic at hand.   Anyways, this album was another one that was a bit of a slow burn for me and I have no idea why because it’s and amazing record basically all the way through.   I had their second album loved it, listened to it all the time then picked up this one.  I gave it a listen and for some reason decided I wasn’t that impressed.   But as it’s been proven time and time again… I am a jackass.

Megafaun I guess could best be described as psychedelic folk or folk rock or one of those other folk related monikers.  Don’t let that frighten you off though, there’s a good amount of electric guitar and just general rocking happening on this album.  I first heard of them as being ‘the three dudes who were in a band with Justin Vernon before he started Bon Iver’ and figured I’d check them out.  Now don’t get me wrong here I don’t mind Bon Iver but I can understand why it’s a bit too mellow and girly for some folks.   Megafaun, however are a beast of a different persuasion altogether and this album is an excellent introduction to them if you’ve never listened to them before.

Workin Mans Special
The Drink:
This part is a bit new and may seem a little strange but I don’t give a shit.   The name of the blog is Empty Bottle Evenings so we’re going to start recommending a drink to have with each album… a pairing if you will.   Like cheese and a fine wine if that weren’t the type of shit that suburban, white people with too much time on their hands do.  Oh no, this is a mans pairing, like a dog and shotgun or a dog and… well any other type of gun.     This albums drink is a Schmidt’s and Old Grandad, a.k.a The Workin’ Man’s Special.  Ya I know the name probably means nothing to most of you and I’m not going to get into it right now, but that’s what it is.  Oh and get the OGD Bonded, the 80 proof is for pansies.
