Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band | The River Tour Announcement

Last week Bruce Springsteen announced that he would going out on tour with the E Street band in support of them re-issuing the The River as part of an expanded collection named the The Ties That Bind: The River Collection.  It’s been 35 years since the original double album was release so I guess they decided it was a good time to revisit that material.  For me, it’s probably been a couple years since I’ve listened to the whole album so I guess it was time for me to revisit it too.  I’m not shelling for the re-issue collection, but since having a semi-religious experience at a Springsteen show a few years back I’ve been adamant that when he tours again I will find a a way to be there.

When I think of The River I think of the title track: it’s sad, beautiful, and easy to understand.  As a fan of The Boss and birth control I can’t endorse it’s message enough.  But the majority of this album isn’t sad stories of lost hopes and dreams, it’s fun and kind of pointless songs.  I’ve listened to these songs all week and really there are only a handful that I would care to listen to on the regular.  It’s kind of a bummer that I’ll be guaranteed to hear all of them including the mindless filler, but on the upside they are the kind of up tempo jams that will play up better live. Still, I’d rather just have a mixture of old Bruce songs instead of knowing that I will hear nine minutes of blowhard Chris Christie’s favorite song “Drive All Night”; a track where Springsteen crushes the good will that Clarence builds up with a nice sax solo by doing his whole vocals so strained I sound like I’ve ruptured my spleen thing.

Anyway, Springsteen and the E Street Band won’t be playing only The River as they can fit in quite a few extra songs in 3 plus hours so assuming I don’t have to sell my cat in order to buy tickets I’ll probaly try my best to make it to the Minneapolis show. The tickets go on sale Friday morning (12/11/15)  so if you don’t want to regret everything like Mary’s husband, you should probably stop working at 10am and buy yourself some damn tickets.
