Boston Concert Picks: May 7th-10th

5/7

HIATUS KAIYOTE @ THE PARADISE ROCK CLUB – Check out the jazzy sounds of the Aussie band self-described as “Multi-Dimensional, Polyrhythmic Gangster Shit”. Tickets are sold out though so either pay the mark up online or rob a scalper since they do not have feelings anyway.

THE SILKS @ T.T. THE BEAR’S PLACE – Providence, RI’s finest.  Their new album Last American Band is a new blues rock gem produced by Paul Friggin Westerberg of The Replacements. There may be more about this album on this site soon.

POKEY LAFARGE @ THE SINCLAIR – Do you feel like watching some live bluesy folk from the nerdiest looking people you could find this week? Of course you do! Check out this music that will take you back anywhere from 60 to 160 years.

5/8

SAN FERMIN/NATALIE PRASS @ THE SINCLAIR – A lovely night for those who can appreciate female vocals and horn-led Baroque Pop.  Natalie Prass opens, but no indication if birds and squirrels will be joining her on stage.

OF MONSTERS AND MEN @ THE ORPHEUM THEATRE – Iceland’s favorite (sorry Bjork) comes to New England in support of their new album Beneath the Skin. I will be going to the Providence show and let you know if they are still awesome live. (They will be)

5/9

MARTIN SEXTON @ THE HOUSE OF BLUES – Singer-songwriter who got his start performing around Harvard Square, Sexton is coming back to a slightly bigger venue than the street corner he had to fight homeless men to play on.

SMALLPOOLS/GRIZFOLK @THE MIDDLE EAST CAMBRIDGE (DOWNSTAIRS) – I wouldn’t recommend going to listen to the indie pop music here unless you like dancing.  And picking up chicks in their early 20s. Just go, you’ll thank me later.

TOVE STRYKE @ THE MIDDLE EAST CAMBRIDGE (UPSTAIRS) – If you’re still dancing check out more indie dance pop!

5/10

AMY LAVERE & WILL SEXTON @ T.T. THE BEAR’S PLACE– Upright bass player and vocal seductress Amy Lavere brings along Will Sexton to play the guitar and serenade you with roots, folk, and gypsy music. If you are lucky.
