BOSTON CONCERT PICKS: MAY 22ND-MAY 25TH

Greetings! It’s almost Memorial Day. A holiday weekend to celebrate the beginning of Summer with BBQs. And something about War. Maybe? It’s also become the annual weekend for Boston’s Summer Music Festival, Boston Calling. For the 3rd consecutive year hipsters, college kids, and other drunks will flock to Government Center for the 2 and ½ day concert. Tonight Beck headlines the shortened lineup, while Saturday and Sunday will go all day and night. Sexy.

If you live in Boston you’ve probably seen posters up everywhere you go for the last 6 months so this shouldn’t be a surprise but if you want to see artists like My Morning Jacket, Ben Harper, Run the Jewels, TV on the Radio, Jason Isbell, or the Pixies, just ask around someone probably has an extra ticket.

And if you are not interested in any of the bands playing Boston Calling, check out one of these shows happening during this long weekend:

5/22 The Lights Out @ TT the Bear’s – This is Boston based bluesy rock band. Not to be confused with the Romanian psychedelic/indie rock band featured below. Although if you can find a place they are playing you might want to check them out too.

5/23

The Bassrush Takeover Tour @ The House of Blues – This tour features 12th Planet, Loudpvck & Kove and Twistyknobs and is apparently THE event to enjoy Dubstep and Drum & Bass. If whatever the hell that is, is in fact your thing.

5/24

Julius Earthling @ TT The Bear’s Place – Check this show out if you’re one of those math rock aficionados that can’t stand listening to music that is 4 beats per measure. You know like 99% of the music out there. Hey, it’s okay to be different. Weirdo.

5/25

Bad Classic Rock Songs You’ve Heard 1000 Times @ Your Uncle’s Backyard – Happy Memorial Day!
