BOSTON

Boston Concert Picks 9/18 – 9/20

New England has about a week left of good weather before it gets terrible again.  Millions of jerks that bitched about the heat (or the humidity) all summer will soon get their wish and have cold weather to complain about instead. It’s awful. The climate and the people. Which is why I’m leaving. But I’ll always love you assholes. Sorry, massholes.

Before you go into hibernation you should check out a few live shows in the Bay State.  Here’s the cream of the crop as selected by the drunks at Empty Bottle Evenings:

9/18

Jackson Browne @ Blue Hills Pavillion – I was traveling with my gas light on for way, way too long recently and I was anxious as all hell looking for a pump. As I pulled into the station presumably on fumes, Jackson Browne’s “Running on Empty” came on the radio, and I laughed for a good hour. Anyway, that song while his most famous work, is just one song in an entire career’s worth of music. Also, in addition to releasing over a dozen albums Browne has been doing charity work and has been an environmental and political activist for decades. It wouldn’t be a stretch to think he should be “Running on Empty” by now. Wacka Wacka Wacka. If you’re tired after a long week, Browne seems like he can still put on a mellow but solid show. And there will probably be free weed there.

9/19

The Fratelis @ Paradise Rock Club – You know this Scottish band’s song “Chelsea Dagger” whether you realize it or not.  Hints: Chicago Blackhawks, Heineken Commercials, Da Da Do Da Da Do Da Da Da Da Da Da Do.  But yes, this song has other words, and The Fratelis have other songs. Are they any good? Who knows? But if you go and see them this weekend let me know because I won’t be able to make it.

9/20

Joyce Manor @ Royale – This band was responsible for the shortest good album of 2014, Never Hungover Again. I’ve never seen them play live but I’ve heard their crowds get pretty amped up for their brand of nerdy indie punk. Tickets are only $21 bucks a piece and still available so if you’re a dateless loser (a RBF reference not Joyce Manor) get on it.
