Blake Mills is Some Sort of Magician
Blake Mills is a player I only heard about recently and I’m not sure why because this dude is a god damn six string samurai. He’s one of the most original guitarists I’ve seen in a long, long time. I don’t want to guitar geek out on you too much here but this dudes got chops. Mr. Mills manages to combined a wide array of classic influences into something that’s totally his own.
He’s a top notch slide player and his finger style playing is something else. He’s got a soulful white guys style of singing, which normally I hate (cough John cough Mayer)… but Mills makes it work better than pretty much anyone else I’ve heard. From what I understand, he’s done a lot of session work and released a few solo albums as well. However, I’m not going to get into any of that shit because I think that the real power of Blake Mills’ playing is best conveyed live. He’s one of those dudes who’s real essence is never going to be fully captured in the studio.
